Just my 2 Cents

Featured

Good day and thank you for visiting my site. I decided to make a site that talks about products and how these products may be useful in our lives.

Since I am a knitter, I will probably will show knitting products a lot along with just random products that I think help anyone from moms, students, professional, sport fans, etc.

I also have a cat..so..yeah, cat products also. LOL

If there is a product that you may like to see, just drop me a line and I will see what I can do.

Thank you again,

Michelle

PomPom Tutorial

I love making really fluffy pompoms – my strategy is to wrap the yarn around the rings until I can’t get anymore yarn on them. I usually use a 3.35 inch (9 cm) pompom makes.

Then, my favorite pompom making tip, use a fairly long length of yarn (I use 4-5 ft) to secure the pompom. I then trim the ends to an equal length and use a crochet hook to make a chain. Voila! Now I can secure the pompom but can easily remove it to wear the hat on the reverse side or when I need to clean the hat.

A tip from a wonderful reader: use a button inside the hat and pull the lengths of yarn through the buttonholes. This helps to prevent the pompom from pulling away from your hat!

Cables, Cables Everywhere

This is a knitted cable ear warmer I just finished. I use to wonder..”how in the world did someone do this!!!” I was in awe at the design and confused always wondering how. Now I know. A cable needle was used in most instances.

First, what are cable needles? It is a tool that is used to hold stitches either to the front or the back of the work when forming cables. These short needles can be straight or hooked and are usually made of metal, plastic or wood.

Then I got brave. Wow, I can do this also. Here is my first attempt at practicing cables.

First attempt at cabling. I think I did pretty well.

Cable Designs…..So Many Choices

This can be totally overwhelming deciding what kind of cable design you would like to have on your project. You may want to start off with something basic such as shown above. Here is a google search of just a handful or two of the type of cables you can incorporate into your project.

The book that I mentioned in my last post has a section with cables in it. I love this book. It has the basic cable stitch

Simple Basic 4 Cable Stitch

along with more complicated looking cable stitches.

But fear not, if I can do it, so can you.

The possibilities are endless.

I am in the process of making me and my husband a sweater. Been working on it since 2017, yes sometimes I am slow but it will be done before next winter, promise. LOL

Knitting: How we became friends.

Good day hope all is well. As an intermediate knitter I realize there are some things you ABSOLUTELY NEED when you are knitting… besides the needles and yarn.

I taught myself how to knit maybe about 5 years ago while I was a home health aid. I used YouTube. Yes YouTube is the new online school for some, depending on what you want to learn. I started out with make cup cozies. Here are a couple…a blast from the past.

I think I did pretty good as a beginner. Just doing simple stitches.
Knitting and Purling

I also learned how to make hats.

As I look back I have to laugh but hey that’s how we learn right?

Now many years later I have learned a lot, such as how to do cables, finger-less gloves, sweaters, socks, and much more. You can find my creations on Instagram. My handle is KnittingbyMichelle

My favorite thing to make are hats and cowls. I am selling my items on Etsy.

So what do you need to start your knitting journey? Well, we can start with needles. There are so many you can choose from. Straight, Circular, interchangeable, metal, wood, etc. Choices are almost endless. These will get you started on doing the basics, knitting and purling.

So after you grab your needles, you are going to need yarn. Well, here is another endless possibilities when it comes to choices. I have fell in love with Vanna’s Choice. It knits up quick when I make cowls.

As you practice knitting you will want to buy books that will assist you in making it your own with inserting cables, lace, edging and even fair isle. Sounds scary but something you will enjoy once you get the hang of it.

Along with knitting magazines and searching the internet for patterns, I have this book: Ultimate Knit Stitch Bible: 750 knit, purl, cable, lace and colour stitches (Ultimate Guides)

This book is jam-packed stitch bible begins with a guide to the best tools and equipment, detailed instructions on how to knit, and information on reading stitch diagrams and understanding knitting abbreviations.

How I have improved:

I hope you enjoyed this short article on my knitting journey. Hope you will join me. Take care, Michelle

Enjoying my Fire HD 8 Tablet with Alexa

Hey y’all hope all is well. I just wanted to share with you how I am enjoying my Fire HD 8 Tablet. I needed a new one since my Apple tablet decided to take a dive.

I needed something with a lot of space on it. I love apps. So after searching and searching I found this one on Amazon.

Fire HD 8 Tablet with Alexa

I am able to put all the apps I would like to have one it. Very easy to use and responsive. So far so good.

One of the apps I have on there is PlayStation Vue, it’s a streaming app. I enjoy Food Network, ABC News, DIY, HGTV along with other channels.

It has up to 12 hours of battery life, a vibrant 8″ HD display, a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, 1.5 GB of RAM, and Dolby Audio . My eternal storage is 32G, something I need.

The unfortunate part is if you want one of your own, it is currently unavailable on Amazon.

So, you need to protect your tablet with a cover, here is what I got

Tiean Folding Stand Painted Leather Case Cover For Amazon Kindle Fire HD8 8 Inch

I am the type of person who drops almost everything it seems. So yes, I needed something to protect my new, precious tablet. I might buy another one just to change it up.

The only thing I don’t like about it the earphone hole does not line up right with the tablet, but for me that is okay I just take the tablet out of the case.

If you have one let me know how you are enjoying yours and if you have a different tablet cover please share.

Enjoy the rest of your day. Michelle

A little organization goes a long way.

As we go to the grocery store, retail store or just need to store some things in the truck of our vehicle, we always fear the worst….everything flying everywhere with every turn we make. The milk is not where you placed it, the bread is squished, the fruit is here and there, why? Because the bags didn’t stay put. They didn’t stay on the hooks in the SUV as I have experienced.

Then sometimes the thought of sharing vehicle items such as: motor oil, transmission, and washer fluids, and tools with your food is not so ideal at times. So what do you do? Using a cardboard box to put all this stuff in is okay until you hear the box sliding from side to side… Yeah!!!

Well, you can get some milk crates to organize everything. Oh wait….obtaining milk crates can be illegal depending on where you live. https://modernfarmer.com/2013/08/illegal-use-milk-crates-anything-besides-milk/

So what else can you use that will be effective? Here is what I found.

What’s so great about this product? Well.. lets see.
